What causes a primary internal battery 601 error on an HP laptop

Updated: 03/06/2020 by Computer Hope

This error message appears when the HP (Hewlett-Packard) laptop first turns on and is caused when the main removable battery has errors. Using the HP Support Assistant, you can diagnose what's causing the issue. The 601 error is often caused when the battery has lost its effectiveness at holding a charge and needs to be replaced.

Note

This message is for the primary removable battery and not the internal CMOS battery. If you have a bad CMOS battery, a 602 error message will be seen.

Can I disable the primary internal battery 601 alert?

No, this alert message that appears as the computer is first booting cannot be disabled. However, it can be quickly skipped if you press Enter when seeing the message. If nothing is pressed for 15 seconds, this alert times out.
