Accent marks

Accent marks are symbols used over letters, commonly vowels, to help emphasize the pronunciation of a word. Accent marks are commonly found in languages such as French, German, Italian, and Spanish. Many English speaking users ignore accent marks and rarely use them; it is likely that most users have only had to use accent marks on the word "résumé."

Tip

In Microsoft Windows, you can use the Character Map tool to enter accent marks in programs that may not have a tool for inserting letters with accent marks.
