Blade

When referring to a network router, switch, server, or other network device a blade also known as an expansion module refers to a hardware component that can be installed into a chassis that allows for additional functionality, much like an expansion card in a computer, but often at a much bigger scale. For example, a router or switch that supports blades will enable a customer to customize the box to what they need. If they need additional support for fiber lines and they have additional room for blades they could install one or more blades that support the type of fiber connection they need.
