Dead may refer to any of the following:

1. Dead is slang describing a computer component that's no longer functioning and cannot be fixed.

2. Dead describes software or a project no longer developed for various reasons. The software or project could be dead because of a lack of funding, the company went out of business, or a new program was released. Software that's abandoned is more appropriately called abandonware.

3. When describing a computer company, dead describes a company no longer in business or declared bankruptcy.

4. With gaming, dead describes when your character or another NPC (non-player character) dies. Sometimes, when your character dies, you can be resurrected, return to the last save point, or, if playing in hardcore mode, need to start over.

Note

Games that allow players to be resurrected may penalize the player for dying by damaging their equipment or subtracting from their experience.
