Double buffering

Updated: 11/18/2022 by Computer Hope

Double buffering describes a device with two buffers. Using multiple buffers increases a device's overall throughput and helps prevents bottlenecks. For example, double buffering can show one image or frame with graphics while a separate frame is being buffered to be displayed shortly after. This method makes animations and games look more realistic than those done in a single buffer mode.
