Eclipse
A
project originally created by IBM in November
2001 that later became a not-for-profit
foundation in January 2004. Today, the Eclipse foundation provides four services
to its community: 1) IT infrastructure, 2) IP Management, 3) Development
Process, and 4) Ecosystem Development. One software service this foundation
offers is the Eclipse ADT (Ada Development Toolkit), which is a free and open
source multi-language software development environment with an integrated
development environment (IDE) and plug-in system.
Although most commonly used with developing Java
applications it can also be used with other programming languages such as
Ada, C,
C++, COBOL,
Perl, PHP, and many
others.
