electronic learning

Short for electronic learning, e-learning (or eLearning) is the acquiring of knowledge using a computer and the Internet, intranet, or extranet. The multimedia may include streaming video, audio recordings, videoconferencing using a webcam, and virtual worlds, such as Second Life. It is commonly self-paced but can be led by an instructor as well.

A great example of e-learning is online classes offered by a university; which are ideal for people who desire an education, but are not close to campus.
