Embedded object

An embedded object may refer to any of the following:

1. In general, an embedded object is a separate file not created in the program that is placed into the program. For example, when using a word processor program, you paste a movie clip into the word processor document; this would be considered an embedded object. With Microsoft Windows operating systems embedded objects are made possible using OLE (Object Linking and Embedding).

2. On the Internet or an Internet web page an embedded object is any external media that is included in a web page using the HTML (hypertext markup language) <embed> command. For example, when sharing a YouTube video on your web page that video can be shown using the HTML embed code provided by YouTube.

Note

When embedding any object into any file or web page, it is important to realize that you can only embed an "object" and not a program. For example, audio files, clipart, pictures, movies, and text documents are all examples of objects that can be embedded.
