Fixed disk

Term used to describe hard disk drives inside the computer. This name is used because the drives are almost always internal and cannot be easily removed from the computer like a removable disk such as a floppy diskette or compact disc.

Note: Although USB external hard disk drives can be easily moved from the computer these drives are still referred to as a fixed disk drive.
