Fixed disk

Alternatively referred to as fixed media, a fixed disk is a term used to describe hard drives inside the computer. This name is used because the drives are almost always internal and cannot be easily removed from the computer like a removable disk such as a floppy diskette or compact disc.

Note: Although USB external hard drives can be easily moved from the computer, these drives are still referred to as a fixed disk drive.
