Short for Group Policy Object, GPO is a computer or groups of computers on a network with a Group policy applied. A GPO can be edited using gpedit (accessed by running gpedit.msc) or, in Windows XP Professional SP1 and Windows Server 2003, through the GPMC (Group Policy Management Console) tool available here. Below is a picture of what the Group Policy Editor window may look like in Windows 10.

How to open the Group Policy Editor

To open the Group Policy Editor in Microsoft Windows, follow the steps below.

  1. Click Start.
  2. Type gpedit.msc and press Enter.
