Ligature

In typography, a ligature describes the shape of two or more characters that touch each other. The shape can be ornamental and stylized, or the shape that naturally occurs when the characters are set next to each other.
For example, in many type settings, two consecutive lowercase f letters appear to touch, as seen here: 'ff'. Another example is 'fh', which in some fonts forms a natural ligature, as shown in the image.
Tip
In Microsoft Word the ligature can be adjusted through text effects.
