1. When referring to a LAN (Local-Area-Network), local refers to a network that has networking equipment or computers in close proximity to each other. Instead of a WAN (Wide-Area-Network) or network that is spread across multiple locations or even around the world.
2. When referring to a file or storage medium, local refers to a storage location on the computer being used.
