Nameserver

A computer responsible for assigning a domain name an IP address. Without nameservers a user could not enter a domain name such as 'computerhope.com' and would have to enter the IP address of the computer they wished to visit.

  • See the MS-DOS/Windows nslookup command page or Linux nslookup command for further information about each of these commands for looking up nameserver information.
