Postprocessor

Updated: 11/13/2018 by Computer Hope

A postprocessor is any hardware or software which processes data as a late step in a multi-step process, after primary processing is complete. In automated manufacturing, for example, a software postprocessor may analyze a CAD (computer-aided design) model to verify that it is compatible with the automated manufacturing hardware.

In digital media production, a postprocessor makes adjustments before the final media output is complete. For example, an image or video postprocessor may apply a color adjustment to the final images, and an audio postprocessor may apply a reverb effect to the final audio.
