Short for point-to-point protocol, PPP is a communication protocol that allows dial-up to connect to other network protocols like TCP/IP (transmission control protocol/Internet protocol) and IPX (Internetwork Packet Exchange). Unlike SLIP (Serial Line Internet Protocol), which is another popular dial-up protocol, PPP offers features such as password protection and error-correction.
