Illustration of Parameter RAM

PRAM may refer to any of the following:

1. Short for Parameter RAM, PRAM is a small, battery-powered section in Apple Macintosh computers that stores basic settings such as the time and the data. PRAM is similar to IBM compatible computers' CMOS (complementary metal-oxide semiconductor).

Note

With Intel based Apple computers, PRAM was replaced with NVRAM (non-volatile random-access memory).

2.Charles Sie published a dissertation in 1969 describing and demonstrating phase-changing memory called PRAM. Although this type of PRAM has still never been commercially practical, companies like Samsung still have some interest in the technology.
