RC may refer to any of the following:

1. Short for release candidate, RC is a software version still being tested but ready to be released. If no major issues are found in the release candidate, it is released to the public.

Note

When software enters the RC stage of the software release life cycle, it's often called going silver. The next stage would be going gold.

2. Abbreviation for remote connection, see the remote access definition for further information about this term.

3. Short for remote control, RC is anything that can be controlled wirelessly by a remote. The first RC device was created by Nikola Tesla.

4. In Unix-like operating systems such as Linux, rc is a file name extension for "run commands." An rc file contains several statements or commands, one per line, to be executed or evaluated by the shell. Its purpose is to configure the environment and prepare the system to run specific software.
