SMBus
Short for System Management Bus, the SMBus or sm bus controller was first developed by Intel in 1995 and is a split from I2C that requires more strict electrical and protocol conventions and enables your computer motherboard to communicate with low-speed peripherals such as the battery on a laptop computer.
- If this device is being shown in Device Manager with an error, this is an indication that your motherboard chipset drivers have not been installed or were not found during the Windows installation. See the motherboard drivers page for a listing of links to motherboard drivers and chipset drivers. If this is an OEM computer such as a Dell or HP we suggest getting the chipset drivers directly from the computer manufacturer website.
