An Internet Standard or STD is a set of RFC documents that contain information about an Internet standard. Before IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force) creates an Internet standard it starts off as an Internet Draft, which may be promoted to an RFC (Request for Comments), and then eventually become an Internet Standard or Proposed Standard.
