Alternatively called a repeat rate, the typematic rate is how frequently a computer will repeat a single character when a key is held down continuously. More specifically, it refers to the time interval between repeated characters. For instance, if a keyboard has a typematic rate set to four characters per second, a depressed key will repeat its output every 0.25 seconds.
