What happens if you cancel your WoW subscription?

Once your subscription ends, your account becomes inactive, and you cannot play any of your characters higher than level 20. However, none of your characters or the items they have are deleted. If you decide to come back and start paying for a WoW subscription again, all of your characters can continue being played again.
