Zone

  1. When referring to a computer network, a zone is a location within a local-area network (LAN); zones are subsets of the larger network.
  2. In computer games a zone refers to a separated section of an overall area in a game. For example, a game world may consist of several dozens zones each with their own levels of creatures, appearance and towns. Much like how a country consists of several different states. When moving from zone to zone some games may have a small load time, when encountered this is often referred to as zoning.
  3. Overall, a zone refers to a location separated from other areas.
