Top News Story: Broadband Drives Internet Growth

* lightreading.com -- IDC predicts that the volume of Internet traffic generated by end users worldwide will nearly double annually over the next five years, increasing from 180 petabits per day in 2002 to 5,175 petabits per day by the end of 2007. To put these figures into perspective, the entire printed collection of the Library of Congress amounts to only 10 terabytes of information. By 2007, IDC expects Internet users will access, download, and share the information equivalent of the entire Library of Congress more than 64,000 times over, every day.

* Virus:

itworld.com -- A worm with high damage potential is spreading across the Internet, with initial outbreaks Monday in Europe and Asia, Trend Micro Inc. said.

The Lovgate.C worm, a variant of an earlier worm with the same name, propagates itself by replying to e-mail in a user's inbox with an attachment containing the bad code, Trend said. It then installs a backdoor port that allows a remote user to access and modify files on an infected user's system.

* Security: No new security news this week.

* Privacy:

cnn.com -- Internet job board Monster.com, acknowledging a growing problem for online career sites, is e-mailing millions of job seekers, warning that fake listings are being used to gather and steal personal information.

This week we came across the FlyFan, which is another great idea from Kensington. For those who have their computer in a stuffy or hot area the FlyFan is a portable USB fan that requires no batteries and is small enough to transport with your laptop.

If you have one of these laptops or are running the Lindows Operating System we would love to hear how you like or dislike this Operating System.

We would love to hear your comments; suggestions, interests, opinions, fun web sites or what ever is on your mind. E-mail us at newsletter@computerhope.com
