Codec ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/c/codec.htm ) -
1. Short for compression / decompression, a codec is an algorithm or special computer program that reduces the number of bytes consumed by large files.
2. In communication a codec is short for coder/decoder. A codec is a chip that decodes analog-to-digital conversion and digital-to-analog.

* Privacy:
cnn.com -- Consumers shouldn't be worried that Microsoft Corp.'s new security technology will wrest control of their PCs and give it to media companies, Bill Gates said this week. They can always choose not to use it, he said.
