Hops ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/h/hops.htm ) -
The amount of connections in-between the source and destination. The traceroute command can be used with most operating systems to see how many hops it takes to reach a destination. Below is a basic example of what this may look like:

1 169 ms 190 ms 160 ms slc1-tc.xmission.com [166.70.1.20]
2 159 ms 160 ms 190 ms cisco0-tc.xmission.com [166.70.1.1]
3 165 ms 189 ms 159 ms www.computerhope.com [166.70.10.23]

* Virus: No new virus news this week.

* Security:

- zdnet.com.com -- Microsoft fixed a security flaw in its Passport online identity system after the vulnerability was revealed by a Latin American hacker.

- news.zdnet.co.uk -- America Online released on Monday an updated version of its AOL Instant Messenger service that offers client-to-client encryption.

* Privacy:

- dc.Internet.com -- U.S. Sen. Dianne Feinstein (D-Calif.) introduced legislation Friday to require businesses or government agencies to notify individuals if a database has been broken into and personal data has been compromised, including Social Security numbers, driver's licenses and credit cards.
