We would first like to thank Sean H., Herbert H., and each of the other Computer Hope Newsletter subscribers for letting us know about the error in our pitch computer dictionary definition, which we listed in last weeks newsletter. Below is the corrected version of the pitch definition as well as this week's computer term.

Pitch ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/s/safering.htm ) -
When referring to a software word processing or desktop publishing program. Pitch is a measurement used to determine how many fixed-width characters can be fit into an inch of space.

When referring to sound, pitch refers to the subjective perception of frequency.


Safety ring ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/s/safering.htm ) -
Also known as a write ring, a safety ring is a plastic ring that fits within the reel of magnetic tape that helps prevent data from being accidentally overwritten or erased.

story.news.yahoo.com -- Security firms have detected the first of the season's 9/11 anniversary worms this week, and more are likely to follow.

news.bbc.co.uk -- Prime Minister Tony Blair and his official website are the target of a new Internet worm.

news.com.com -- A Romanian antivirus company said Wednesday that it helped police identify a 24-year-old man arrested on suspicion of releasing a new version of the MSBlast Internet worm, the second arrest of a copycat-virus writer in the past week.

* Security:

crn.com -- Microsoft has released another set of security fixes for five vulnerabilities in Windows and Office that hackers and virus/worm writers could potentially exploit.

* Privacy: No privacy news this week.
