HAL ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/h/hal.htm ) -
1. Short for Hardware Abstraction Layer, HAL is a operating system programming layer that enables the operating system to operate with a hardware device. Additional information for Microsoft Windows NT, 2000, and XP users and the hal.dll file can be found on document CH000490.
2. More appropriately known as the "HAL 9000", HAL is the name of the artificial intelligent computer in the 1968 Science Fiction movie "2001: A Space ODYSSEY".

* Virus:
New worm's got sass, but not much else
zdnet.com.com -- The security researchers at eEye Digital Security are not impressed with the Sasser worm.
The company, which found the flaws that were exploited by both the MSBlast worm and the Witty worm, on Saturday started analyzing the latest piece of attack code that takes advantage of a Microsoft Windows vulnerability discovered by its researchers. So far, eEye's analysts are surprised that the worm has spread so far.
* Security:
Apple patches QuickTime flaw
news.com.com -- Apple Computer issued on Friday a security advisory and fix for a QuickTime flaw that the company describes as a minor issue, but which is classified as a serious problem by the firm that found the vulnerability.
MI5 security advice goes online
news.bbc.co.uk -- The security service MI5 has published its terrorist threat assessment and safety advice for the first time
Alarm growing over bot software
news.com.com -- While many network administrators worry about the next worm, security experts are warning that a quieter but equally damaging threat is slowly gaining control of large networks of computers

This week we came across BlueTags, a hardware device that helps track an individual by calling the device on a mobile phones and receiving real-time information about that person. This device would be great for parents who may be concerned for where their child may be, or for hospitals concerned about their patients, corporations keeping track of their employees, etc.
