Root ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/r/root.htm ) -
1. Also known as an admin, administrator, and gatekeeper, root is a super user on a computer network. Generally a root is used to refer to the system administrator on a Unix / Linux network and is an individual who has complete access to a network.
2. The highest level in a directory hierarchy. For example in MS-DOS the root of the primary hard disk drive would C:\>.

* Virus:
Worm poses as CNN update
news.com.au -- A NEW computer worm is spreading via an email that poses as a news update from US news service CNN.
* Security:
MS Office encryption flaw uncovered
infoworld.com -- A researcher has uncovered what is claimed to be a serious flaw in the way Microsoft implements document encryption in Word and Excel.
Oracle releases critical security patch set
computerworld.com -- Oracle Corp. yesterday brought out the first release of its Critical Patch Update, which contains software patches for security vulnerabilities in a wide variety of Oracle products. The software is the first such release since Oracle decided last November to begin releasing security patches on a quarterly cycle.
Hacker threat to Apple's iTunes
news.bbc.co.uk -- Users of Apple's music jukebox iTunes need to update the software to avoid a potential security threat.
* Privacy:
Hackers Eavesdrop on Phone Networks to Steal Data
story.news.yahoo.com -- Computer hackers have taken to stealing data the easy way -- by eavesdropping on phone and e-mail conversations to find the keys to seemingly impregnable networks, security experts say.

4. What's new at Computer Hope this week?

- Posted the second update of our Q&A update. Pages 101 - 200 have been proofread and have had hundreds of updates done to them.
- Corrected issue with the help section in the last 20 category updates not properly being listed.
- Corrected serious issue with the edit link on each of our pages not properly being sent to Computer Hope. Because of this issue some of the edits and modifications may have not been received.
- Added additional error checking and logging for newsletter e-mail submission script after users reporting issues when submitting their e-mail addresses.
- Corrected minor issue with behind the scenes news script.
- Updated and added Q&A documents.
- Added and updated some dictionary definitions.
- Created rough draft of new upcoming mail system overhaul.
- Performed other minor updates.

This week we came across a fantastic idea and something we hope to see more of in the future. The company Plantic is developing plastic from plants, a much more environmental friendly biodegradable plastic. Companies such as Cadbury Schweppes Australia already plans on using Plantic in their Cadbury Milk Tray.

We have also been trying out Netflix over the last month. For anyone in the United States who is not familiar with Netflix or who has not yet tried this service we highly recommended it. Netflix is a service that enables users to rent as many movies as you want getting up to 3 movies at a time, allows you to keep the movies as long as you want with no late fees and only costs a monthly fee of $17.99 with free shipping and postage. A great idea for anyone tired of late fees or not being able to get their favorite movies at the video store. In addition to a great service the Netflix web page is a great webpage that suggests other movies you may enjoy based off of your previous movie ratings.
