Whetstone ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/w/whetston.htm ) -
A software benchmark originally written in Algol by Harold Curnow and named after the town it was developed in. Whetstone was first widely released on November 1972 and is considered to be one of the first benchmarks for performance. Whetstone measures performance using floating point instructions and gives results in "KWIPS" or thousands of Whetstone Instructions Per Second.

* Virus:
HP tools would limit virus damage
news.com.com -- Hewlett-Packard on Friday released its newest form of antivirus software, a set of damage control applications meant to stem the spread of attacks once they've already been launched on a network.
MSN Messenger Exploit Code Goes Public
newsfactor.com -- Although no attacks based on the hole have been reported, the security community is bracing itself for at least some. MSN Messenger is used by over 130 million people worldwide, making it an attractive target. "I think we can expect to start seeing malicious activity soon," says Core Security product manager Max.
IBM: Virus Threats Spreading Beyond Computers
wireless.newsfactor.com -- IBM says in its 2004 Global Business Security Index Report that a growing number of devices other than traditional computers are vulnerable to virus attacks, represeenting a "new frontier" for malware. During 2004, attacks on PDAs and other mobile devices increased significantly.
Microsoft AntiSpyware Program Hit by Trojan
newsbug.net -- Software king Microsoft is again under attack from virus makers. This time, the company says its new AntiSpyware beta program is being hit by the Bankash-A Trojan.

Browser Feature Could Make Scams Easier
story.news.yahoo.com -- An Internet browser feature meant to permit Web addresses in Chinese, Arabic and other languages could encourage online fraudsters by making scam Web sites look legitimate to visitors.
Microsoft issues 12 patches, eight of them for critical flaws
computerworld.com -- On the same day that it announced a deal to acquire antivirus software vendor Sybari Software Inc., Microsoft Corp. today released a total of 12 software patches designed to fix 16 vulnerabilities in Windows, Office and other products.
