ESDI ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/e/esdi.htm ) -
Short for Enhanced Small Device Interface, ESDI is a early standard interface found on IBM high end PS/2 computers that allowed hard drives, tape drives, and diskette drives to work with a computer. Capable of transferring data at about 1MB to 3MB a second.

Today ESDI has been outdated by storage interfaces such as IDE, EIDE, and SCSI.

* Security:

RSA: Microsoft on 'rootkits': Be afraid, be very afraid
computerworld.com -- Microsoft Corp. security researchers are warning about a new generation of powerful system-monitoring programs, or "rootkits," that are almost impossible to detect using current security products and could pose a serious risk to corporations and individuals.

Researchers find security flaw in SHA-1
infoworld.com -- Security experts are warning that a security flaw has been found in a powerful data encryption algorithm, dubbed SHA-1, by a team of scientists from Shandong University in China. The three scientists are circulating a paper within the cryptographic research community that describes successful tests of a technique that could greatly reduce the speed with which SHA-1 could be compromised.

HP reveals HTTP vulnerabilities
infoworld.com -- Hewlett-Packard has warned of a serious vulnerability in its Web-Enabled Management Software that leaves an unusually diverse range of software open to remote attack.

Microsoft Patches Media Player 10
betanews.com -- Microsoft on Wednesday issued an updated Windows Media Player 10 to correct a potential security issue that could allow an attacker to mislead users into downloading malware or viruses instead of a license to playback DRM content.

Firefox to Disable IDN Support as Phishing Defense
news.netcraft.com -- The Mozilla development team said today that it will disable a browser feature that allows URL spoofing and could leave users open to scams. Upcoming releases of the Firefox and Mozilla browsers will turn off support for Internationalized Domain Names (IDN) by default to protect users from the spoofing, which works in current versions of Firefox, Mozilla, Opera and the Safari browser for Macs. The affected browsers support IDN, while Microsoft's Internet Explorer does not.

http://www.ntt.co.jp/news/news05e/0502/050218.html
This week we came across a press release about a Human Area Networking technology known as "RedTaction", this is an innovative idea that safely turns the surface of the human body into a data transmission path capable of supporting speeds up to 10 Mbps. Some potential possibilities this technology could be such things as having devices worn on the body such as watches, PDA's, MP3 players, etc. transfer data between each other, have other services such as a desk or a chair connect to a network, which could allow users just to place their computer on a desk and have it connect to the Internet. These are just a few examples the site lists as potential possibilities and for users interested in new ideas and technology we highly recommend reading this press release.
