1. Weekly Computer Term.
------------------------------------------------------------
Average ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/a/average.htm ) -
Also known as mean, median, and mode. Average is the sum of a collection of numbers, divided by the total amount of numbers. For example, assume we have the following collection of numbers: "1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3". The sum of these numbers is 16, 16 divided by 7 is 2.28, therefore 2.28 is the average of these numbers.

6. All Talk

http://stardustathome.ssl.berkeley.edu/
On February 7, 1999, the spacecraft Stardust was lunched into space and collected cometary samples in 2000, 2002, and 2004. Just recently on January 15, 2006 the samples have successfully returned to Earth. Now the Stardust@Home project needs human participants to help in locating the small grains of commit located in the special aerogel collectors. As mentioned on the web site the complexity of locating these small grains is equivalent to searching for 45 ants in an entire football field, one 5cm by 5cm (2 inch by 2 inch) square at a time. Accepted participants for this project will be able to connect to a server and use a virtual microscope and examine focus movies containing images collected from the stardust interstellar dust collector.
This is a fascinating project and a first of its kind to our knowledge. The project will begin on February 15, 2006 and is expected to end October 1, 2006. If you're interested in helping this project or learning more about Stardust we highly recommend visiting the above link.
