Metcalfe's Law ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/m/metcalfe.htm ) -
Coined by Robert Metcalfe, the inventor of Ethernet, Metcalfe's Law states that the value of a network grows by the square of the size of the network. The idea behind this law is that a network's value is increased as the size of the network increases; this law is often referred to when talking about the Internet's value. For example, if the network has 5 machines its value would be 25 (5^2=25), but if another network had 1000 machines its value would be 1,000,000.
This law is also considered applicable to more than just the Internet or a computer network. For example, a software product may increase in value as it grows in size. If a product only has 25 users it is less likely to be known and used. However, if a product has 1,000 users it is more likely to be known and used and introduced to more users.

Hybrid Silicon Laser
http://www.intel.com/research/platform/sp/hybridlaser.htm
Intel and the University of California (UCSB) have recently announced a breakthrough in silicon photonics after demonstrating the first electronically pumped hybrid silicon laser. This is a great breakthough as it will allow future chips to transmit data using laster light and potentially have a dramatic increase in overall performance. Read the above link for additional information about this new technology.
ABBYY Mobile OCR
http://www.abbyy.com/sdk/?param=56223
ABBY has developed a great software program that allows camera phones, PDA's, and digital camera users to take pictures of objects with text and read and extract text into your device. For example, a user could take a picture of a buisness card and extract the text on the buisness card into their mobile phones address book. See the above link for additional details and a trial version.
