Passive matrix display ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/p/passmatr.htm ) -
Type of LCD screen display that contains a series of wires that criss-cross each other. At the intersection of each wire contains a single LCD element that allows light to be passed through. A passive-matrix display does not provide the same quality as an active-matrix display can.

New 'botworm' exploits Symantec flaw
news.com.com -- A new worm that uses a known security hole in Symantec's corporate antivirus tools to spread has hit the Net, experts warned Friday.

* Security:

Hackers Selling Vista Zero-Day Exploit
eweek.com -- Underground hackers are hawking zero-day exploits for Microsoft's new Windows Vista operating system at $50,000 a pop, according to computer security researchers at Trend Micro.

Microsoft quietly tackles known Wi-Fi flaw
news.com.com -- Earlier this year, security researchers publicized a known flaw with how Microsoft Windows XP SP2 implemented its wireless networking: Windows XP SP2 would automatically scan for wireless networks upon power-up, going through a list of known, previously associated networks.

* Privacy:

Yahoo's IM update: A Trojan horse of surprises
news.com.com -- Yahoo said late Friday that it has fixed a bug in its newest version of Yahoo Messenger that changed a user's mail preferences without his or her consent.

Online email accounts held hostage for blackmail
blogs.zdnet.com -- Websense is reporting that a new form of cyber-extortion has emerged in recent days that exploits the promiscuous nature of cyber-cafes and PC-terminals. By stealing email credentials from unsuspecting shared-terminal users, the attackers steal all the victim's emails and contacts and then sends a single message in the email account basically asking for ransom in a note written in Spanish. The ransom note translates to "If you want to know where your contacts and your emails are then pay us or if you prefer to lose everything then don't write soon!".

Boeing laptop with employee data stolen
news.yahoo.com -- A Boeing Co. laptop containing the names and Social Security numbers of 382,000 workers and retirees has been stolen, putting the employees at risk for identity theft and credit-card fraud.

UCLA Database Hole Exposed 800,000 to ID Theft
Internetnews.com -- In a stunning disclosure today, the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA) said a restricted campus database with the Social Security numbers and other personal information about some 800,000 current and some former students has been hacked.
