TLP ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/t/tlp.htm ) -
Short for Thread-Level Parallelism, TLP is a software capability that enables a program, often a high-end program such as a database or web application to work with multiple threads at the same time instead of having to wait on other threads. Programs that support this ability are able to do a lot more even under high levels of work loads.

* Virus:

Computers accidentally "attacked" by Norton AntiVirus
news.xinhuanet.com -- An error occurring in the update of Norton's virus database on Friday has caused millions of PCs and computers to crash-a heavy blow to people's daily work and ongoing business.

* Security:

New gang war raging on the Internet
news.com.com -- It's like something out of The Sopranos. Antivirus researchers at Moscow-based Kaspersky Labs have identified criminal gangs engaged in a turf battle online. The primary groups are responsible for the Warezov and Zhelatin worms; these worms then download Trojans that are in turn responsible for a majority of the spam and malware circulating on the Web. Basically, new spam and new phishing attacks are designed to switch your remotely controlled PC from belonging to the Warezov gang or the Zhelatin gang. The resulting botnets--collections of remotely controlled PCs--have proved profitable, luring unsuspecting Internet users to purchase porn or other services attributed to organized crime activity.

Samba developers quash serious bug
news.yahoo.com -- Users of the open-source Samba software are being urged to patch their code following the discovery of a critical bug in the file-and-print software.

Download backdoor found in Windows Update
pcmag.co.uk -- A security firm has warned that parts of Windows designed to download official patches and updates are being used to download malicious files.

* Privacy:

IBM loses retirees' personal info
news.yahoo.com -- IBM Corp., one of the world's leading providers of encryption and other data-management technologies, is in the uncomfortable position of trying to solve its own mystery involving missing computer tapes with sensitive information about employees and records of customer transactions.

http://www.eol.org/
Earlier this month the Encyclopedia of Life or EOL was introduced. An ambitious project that plans on documenting all 1.8 million named species of animals, plants, and other forms of life on Earth. The page currently has setup some example pages and additional information about the project. If successful this would be another invaluable site on the Internet.

Finally, we also recently came across another unique USB device. This one is a USB mini fridge, which enables you to keep a drink cool either while you're waiting to drink it or as you drink it.
