* Security:

Microsoft better at patching XP than Vista
infoworld.com -- A Microsoft security executive released data Thursday showing that, six months after shipping Windows Vista, his company has left more publicly disclosed Vista bugs unpatched than it did with Windows XP.

Vista the most secure OS, according to researcher
arstechnica.com -- Jeffrey R. Jones, a self-described "security guy" who works at Microsoft's security division, has published his latest report (PDF) comparing the number of fixed and unfixed vulnerabilities of various operating systems, including Windows Vista, Windows XP, Red Hat Enterprise Linux 4 Workstation, Ubuntu Linux 6.06 LTS, Novell SUSE Linux Enterprise Desktop 10, and Mac OS X 10.4.

Hackers target 'legitimate' sites
news.bbc.co.uk -- More than 10,000 websites have become unwitting hosts of malicious software, say security experts.

Trillian critical security update released
news.com.com -- Cerulean Studios on Monday released a "highly critical" security update for its Trillian multi-protocol chat software.

Analysts: Microsoft flaw opened door to scammers
infoworld.com -- Microsoft on Tuesday fixed a bug in its Windows Live ID registration that let users deceptively register a false e-mail address.

Apple issues Apple TV security fix
news.com.com -- Apple today issued an update for its Apple TV device. The update fixes the mDNSResponder buffer overflow vulnerability, CVE-2007-2386. This vulnerability was patched last month in Security Update 2007-05 for desktop and laptop users of Apple Mac OS X 10.4 up to 10.4.9.

Hacker breaks into Pentagon email system
channelregister.co.uk -- The Pentagon took as many as 1,500 computers offline yesterday to stamp out a security breach in the Office of the Secretary of Defense. US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates told reporters in a news briefing today that a hacker had penetrated an unclassified OSD email system, prompting the shutdown. The system reportedly does not contain information related to military operations.

Blackberry a threat to French national security
tgdaily.com -- French government officials are ditching their Blackberry devices for fears of American eavesdropping. A government advisory, which is being sent to all French ministries, claims that the wireless email messages can be intercepted because they pass through servers in Canada, United States and the United Kingdom. Research in Motion adamantly assures the French that the emails are secure from everyone, even from employees at RIM.

DHS acknowledges own computer break-ins
news.yahoo.com -- The Homeland Security Department, the lead U.S. agency for fighting cyber threats, suffered more than 800 hacker break-ins, virus outbreaks and other computer security problems over two years, senior officials acknowledged to Congress.
