Deep link ( http://www.computerhope.com/jargon/d/deeplink.htm ) -
Term used to describe a link pointing to any section of a web page that is not the home page. For example, if someone was to link to this dictionary definition web page instead of linking to Computer Hope's main page, that would be considered a deep link.

Some companies or individuals request or prohibit a user from creating deep links to their web page because they believe a user may be confused by who is providing the information and/or because it cuts the amount of advertising displayed to the visitor while they are visiting a site.

news.com.com -- A soap opera is playing out on the mailing lists of several security newsgroups this morning, complete with people hiding behind pseudonyms, people "outing" one another and rumors of death threats against the major players. At stake? A possible worm for Apple's Mac OS X operating system.

P2P Trojan Makes PC Talk, Laugh at You, While Erasing Hard Drive
zeropaid.com -- "You have been infected I repeat you have been infected and your system files have been deleted -- Sorry, have a nice day and bye bye." If your computer starts talking to you and tells you that you are infected and your files have been deleted, it's no joke, you have just been infected by the BotVoice.A Trojan.

* Security:

Adobe fixes critical Flash bugs

computerweekly.com -- Microsoft released six security updates Tuesday, three of which address critical flaws in Excel, Windows and the .NET Framework. And it's the .NET issues in particular that have security experts concerned.

* Privacy:

Hackers steal government, corporate data
today.reuters.com -- Hackers stole information from the Department of Transportation and several U.S. corporations by seducing employees with fake job-listings on ads and e-mail, a computer security firm said on Monday.

Disney Warns of Data Leak

The tricky issue of spyware with a badge: meet 'policeware'
arstechnica.com -- It's well known that organizations with nefarious and often criminal goals support and distribute malware and spyware that allows them to snoop on and/or manipulate people's computers. However, what is less well-known is that some of the people behind spyware are ostensibly the "good guys"law enforcement officers who install the software on suspects' computers to assist them with their investigations.

Ohio State Data Leak Now About 16 Times Worse Than Initially ...
techdirt.com -- Back in June, the state of Ohio said it had lost the personal information of some 64,000 state employees, after a storage device was stolen from an intern's car -- which, apparently according to its security protocols, was a suitable off-site storage location. The state dutifully followed the usual plan of releasing another announcement raising the number of people whose information was lost, putting it at 500,000. Turns out that was a little conservative; the state now says the figure is closer to one million, nearly 16 times the original claim. The governor and his staffers claim that nobody appears to have used the stolen information yet, and that it would take somebody with "special knowledge and understanding" to access it. Of course, coming from a place where storing stuff in an intern's car is regarded as secure and safe, that claim doesn't carry a lot of weight -- nor does it make up for the egregious breach that occurred.

Six arrested in massive credit card fraud case
tgdaily.com -- Secret Service agents have arrested six members of a southern Florida gang that was responsible for using more than 200,000 stolen credit card numbers and causing $75 million in damages. The group purchased stolen credit card numbers from Eastern Europe and then fabricated counterfeit cards, complete with holograms and other security features.
