Default name describing the local computer address also known as the loopback address of the computer. For example, typing: "ping localhost" would ping the local IP address of 127.0.0.1 (the loopback address).

networkworld.com -- Web security is at the top of customers minds after many well-publicized personal data breaches, but the people who actually build Web applications arent paying much attention to security, experts say.
Sun patches critical Java bugs
infoworld.com -- Sun patched 11 vulnerabilities in the Windows, Linux, and Solaris versions of its Java Runtime Environment and Java Web Start Wednesday, including several rated critical by outside researchers.
Analyst warns that Web 2.0 threatens corporate security
infoworld.com -- With the Web becoming central to the way companies do business, cybercriminals are taking increasing advantage of Web 2.0 and social networking sites to launch attacks, according to Christian Christiansen, vice president for security products and services for IDC.
Microsoft updates Vista's speed, stability, again
infoworld.com -- For the second time in two months, Microsoft has rolled out fixes to improve Windows Vista's speed and reliability. The four separate updates, available now for download from the vendor's Web site, address several operating system performance and stability problems, deal with a dozen Universal Serial Bus issues, improve Windows Media Player, and patch Media Center.
Microsoft Confirms Stealth Updating Mucks Up XP Restore
pcworld.com -- Microsoft Corp. Friday confirmed that Windows XP users who repair the operating system cannot update their PCs with the latest patches because of a file included with the stealth update pushed out to machines this summer.
Security firm warns of AIM vulnerability risk
tgdaily.com -- Core Security Technologies says that a critical flaw in AOL's instant messenger application has still not been fixed, despite the online company's remarks to the contrary.

Yahoo, eBay work to block phishing
reuters.com -- Yahoo Inc, is working with auction leader eBay Inc and its PayPal payments unit to block fake e-mails to users purporting to be from eBay and PayPal, hoping to spur on an industry that has been slow to fight the scourge of so-called phishing attacks.
eBay forum mysteriously leaks account details on 1,200 users
channelregister.co.uk -- Hackers brazenly posted sensitive information including home addresses and phone numbers for 1,200 eBay users to an official online forum dedicated to fraud prevention on the auction site. The information - which also included user names and email, and possibly their credit card numbers and three-digit CVV2 numbers - was visible for more than an hour to anyone visiting the forum. The miscreants appeared to create a script that caused each user to log in and post information associated with the person who owned the account. The script spit out about 15 posts per minute, starting around 5:45 a.m. California time.
