* Virus:
Storm Worm Now Just a Squall
pcworld.com -- The Storm Worm's days may be numbered, according to a University of California researcher. Brandon Enright, a network security analyst at UC San Diego, has been tracking Storm since July and said that, despite the intense publicity that the network of infected computers has received, it's actually been shrinking steadily and is presently a shadow of its former self. On Saturday, he presented his findings at the Toorcon hacker conference in San Diego.

New Spam Attack Delivers Audio Stock Pitches
blogs.pcworld.com -- Stock tip spammers have a new ploy to dupe you into listening to their pitches. According to Web security firm MessageLabs spammers are tricking people into opening e-mail MP3 attachments promising music from Elvis Presley, The Beatles, and Britney Spears. Instead of receiving a song, spam recipients are hearing audio stock pitches.
Wi-fi security system is 'broken'
news.bbc.co.uk -- More holes have been picked in the security measure designed to protect the privacy and data of wi-fi users.
Security issue dogs new AIM release

Cafe Latte attack steals data from Wi-Fi PCs
infoworld.com -- If you use a secure wireless network, hackers may be able to steal data from your computer in the time it takes to have a cup of coffee. At the Toorcon hacking conference in San Diego this coming weekend, security researcher Vivek Ramachandran, will demonstrate a technique he's developed to attack laptops that use the WEP encryption system to log on to secure wireless networks.
Man accused of hacking into 911
ocregister.com -- SWAT officers expected to find a victim shot to death, drugs and a belligerent armed suspect when they surrounded the home of an unsuspecting couple, but found they were only a part of a false emergency call caused by a teenager who hacked into the countys emergency response system, authorities said.
* Privacy:
10,000 Employees' Data on Stolen Laptop
The Home Depot Inc. said Wednesday that a laptop computer containing about 10,000 employees' personal data was stolen from a regional manager's car in Massachusetts.
Phishers Move Beyond eBay, PayPal
pcworld.com -- EBay and PayPal, once the primary lures used by phishers to trick e-mail users into giving up personal information, aren't as popular as they used to be. According to security vendor Sophos, which monitors spam and phishing e-mails to catch new blasts and determine trends, the number of messages pretending to be from eBay or its payment subsidiary PayPal has dropped from 85 percent of all phishing e-mails a year ago to 21 percent in September.
The computer, which was password protected, didn't contain any customer information, said Ron DeFeo, a spokesman for Atlanta-based Home Depot, the world's largest home improvement store chain. He would not say whether the information had been encrypted.
