1. New Computer Term.
Winsock - Short for Windows socket, Winsock was released
January 1993 and is based on the Berkeley Sockets APIs
version 4.3 and allows any vendor's Winsock-compliant
application to work over any vendors' protocol stack. A popular
and widely used public-domain version of Winsock is Trumpet
Winsock written by Peter Tattam and was often included with
Internet Service Providers software. Microsoft Windows 95 and
above include the dll Winsock.dll for its Windows socket.

This week in the 'All Talk' section we will talk about solar
cellular batteries and a new and innovative WIA device from
Hitatchi.

A cellular phone battery which the company claims could save
your life. The battery which fits into most Nokia, Ericsson
and Motorola phones. Capable of charging and being used for
five hours or quickly being charged in 15-20 minutes to make
a quick phone call. Running at a price of US$49.95 die hard
cell phone users or users who may not be by a power source
will find this a nice solution to their current cell phone
battery.

Hitatchi, Ltd. Shimadzu Corporation, Colorado MicroDisplay,
Inc., and Xybernaut Coporation announces that they will
cooperate to explore business opprotunities in the field of
Wearable Internet Appliances (WIA). The appliance will be
comprised of a wearable display that allows hands-free
viewing of a PC-class high-resolution large screen image,
and a control unit that supplies images, including
streaming video, to the display, and provides wireless
access to the Internet. The control unit is powered by a
Hitachi SH-4 32bit RISC processor, and Microsoft Windows CE
3.0, an embedded operating system for 32-bit connected client
devices that demand rich applications and Internet services
and weighs only 230grams in prototype. While this concept has
been around and similar technology to this product is
currently used today hopefully mass-producing this product will
make it more affordable and alternate solution to the PDA used
today.
