* The Register - Businesses are being urged to upgrade Microsoft software by 30 September because MS is ditching its most widely used upgrade path on 1 October 2001.
The call to upgrade comes from industry analysts Gartner as a response to changes in licenses that Microsoft announced in May 2001 coming into effect on 1 October. On that date, Version Upgrades, Product Upgrades, Competitive Upgrades and Language Upgrades will no longer be available. But Microsoft has extended the date for purchasing the Upgrade Advantage (UA) maintenance offering until 28 February 2002.
