Short for Virtual Device Driver, a VxD is a software file that that acts as buffer between a hardware device and software programs. This helps ensure that all software programs needing access to a hardware device do not conflict with each other.

* Microsoft Corp. is disclosing how it will let users of its latest Windows software effectively replace its own e-mail, Web browser and instant-messaging tools with rival programs. The action was required by Microsoft's landmark antitrust settlement with the government.

- CNET: A new computer worm targeted at users of Kazaa's popular file-swapping system infected PCs in Germany, Mexico, South Africa and the United States this weekend.
Posing as popular song and movie files, the Benjamin worm aims to infect Kazaa users' PCs by tricking them into downloading a phony media file to their computer and opening it.
* Security:
- Computer World: A security hole in the application used by Microsoft Corp. operating systems to debug programs while they are in use could allow an attacker to take control of applications running on affected systems, Microsoft said in a security bulletin yesterday.

* Privacy:
- Newsbyte: A multimillion-dollar privacy lawsuit on behalf of customers of Comcast's broadband Internet service has been filed in a federal court, according to the plaintiff's attorney.
The litigation seeks compensation for the approximately one million Comcast Internet customers nationwide whose Web surfing habits were tracked by the Internet service provider earlier this year, according to Steven E. Goren, a partner with Goren & Goren, the Michigan law firm handling the case.

This week we are back talking about Google. As many may already know Computer Hope really enjoys Google (http://www.google.com) as a search destination. This week we came across the Google Labs, which offers Google employees and Google users to play with possible future technology and ideas. The Google Labs currently offers four new demos, the Google Glossary, Google Sets, Voice Search, and Keyboard Shortcuts. These demos offer several new search capabilities that we really enjoy. While still in development we highly recommend you try these demos.
