1. New Computer Term.

Hibernate - Turns off the computer and monitor after a
pre-determined time or when the laptop battery is low, while
retaining your desktop settings. When the computer is turned
back on Hibernate restores your programs and settings exactly
as you left them. Hibernate is also sometimes known as Smart
Battery.

Users with laptops using Windows 3.x, Windows 95, Windows 98
or Windows NT generally utilize PHDISK or HDPREP to set their
computer into Hibernate mode. Additional information and
