3. Computer Virus, Security and/or privacy threats
____________________________________________________________
* Virus: No new virus information this week.
* Security:
- PCWorld: A serious security flaw in Microsoft's virtual machine found on most Windows PCs could allow an attacker to take over a user's system, Microsoft warned late Wednesday. A fixed version of the software is available.
Microsoft's VM is used for running Java applications on Windows PCs and comes with most Windows and Internet Explorer versions. All builds up to and including build 5.0.3805 are affected by eight security flaws, six of which pose a "low" or "moderate" risk to users, Microsoft said in security bulletin MS02-069.
- Information Week: CERT issued an advisory about a security vulnerability affecting Sun Cobalt RaQ 4 Server Appliances, which, ironically, only affects systems with the Security Hardening Package installed. The vulnerability could allow remote attackers to execute arbitrary code to take over the system.
* Privacy:
- CNN: Israeli police, aided by the FBI, arrested an Israeli suspected of hacking into computers of a U.S.-based electronics company and stealing personal information, including the credit card numbers of some 80,000 customers, according to court document released Sunday.

6. All Talk
____________________________________________________________
Google has recently releases several new features that we have really enjoyed. This week for our all talk section we thought we would mention each of new available options from Google as well as an explanation on each of them.
http://froogle.google.com/
Froogle is likely to be the more commonly used new features that Google has made available. Froogle enables users to easily search for the lowest prices on any product. Although still in beta this product looks to be a very promising product and should prove useful during the holiday shopping season.
http://labs.google.com
Two new available demos have been made available in the Google labs. The first demo called the 'Google Viewer' allows a user to search for a topic and then go through the results automatically, similar to a slide show. The second demo known as the 'Google Webquotes' enables a user to get quotes from a third-party about the item searched for.

Finally, the Google Zeitgeist is more of a listing of interesting information containing various search results on different topics for the year 2002.
The above items as well as other new and innovative services and technologies can be found on our What's Hip section on our News page at:
