Computer Hope
Search Engine Search Tips

The Computer Hope search engine was designed with the visitors of our web site in mind. As you can see with the image to the left, our basic search engine is extremely easy to use, located on every page, and lists exactly what you are looking for.
Unlike other search engines, Computer Hope breaks your results into categories and only lists the title of the pages. We feel this makes for a much easier to read and overall better experience.

Search Tips

  • There is no need to add additional characters, such as " + , or Boolean phrases such as and, or, or not.
  • Instead of specifying a model name and/or number of the product you are looking for, search for the type of product. For example, if you are trying to find technical information about "Altec Lansing Speakers", try searching just for "Speakers".

Stop Words

Stop words are common words such as "what", "is", "where", etc. These words are automatically removed to help prevent search results from not being found when they do really exist on Computer Hope. For example, if a user was to type in the search:

What is a sound card?

The Computer Hope search engine, like most search engines, will remove the stop words and replace the above search with:

sound card

This helps locate results that may not be found on a page or search database that does not contain the common words, such as what or is. This feature cannot be disabled.

Missing Word

The Computer Hope search engine is designed to adapt to its computer users and therefore all missing words or results that do not come up with the appropriate results are logged automatically and then reviewed by a us to be added into the search engine for future search queries. Computer Hope receives thousands of searches each day therefore this may take time.

Computer Hope respects everyone's privacy and no personal information about the user performing the search is logged, only the search string. In addition, this information is stored locally at Computer Hope and is not given or sold to any third-party company. Additional information about Computer Hope's policy can be found here.
