Windows 95 Software
Below are listings of different software programs that are included with the standard Windows95 package, and links and information on those software programs. If for some reason you are not able to execute or find any of the below programs on your hard drive and you do have Windows 95, you can add/remove any of these by clicking on Start / Settings / Control Panel / Add Remove Programs / click on the tab Windows setup, and checking the software that you wish to be installed on to the computer.
Microsoft backup (C:\Program Files\Accessories\BACKUP.EXE) Program used for backing up needed software
on your computer.
Explorer (C:\windows\explorer.exe) (cannot be added/removed through add/remove programs)
- If you have used file manager in Windows 3.x, the Windows Explorer is basically the same, however the format has been changed. If you have not used
Windows 3.x, explorer is where you have the ability to move/copy/paste/delete/rename/create shortcuts and files on your hard drive.
Hyper terminal (C:\windows\terminal.exe) - Utility that allows you to chat / log onto a server, view files and various other
options online.
Microsoft paint (C:\program files\accessories\mspaint.exe) A small paint program that is
included with Windows95 allowing you to draw and edit *.bmp and *.pcx files.
Windows defrag (C:\windows\defrag.htm)
Program that chronologically orders the data on the hard disk drive.
Windows minesweeper (C:\windows\winmine.exe)
- Game that is in Windows95 and also Windows 3.x and the object of the game is to clear the screen without running into a mine.
Windows scandisk (C:\windows\scandisk.exe) - Program that checks the drive for possible errors.
Windows solitaire (C:\windows\sol.exe) - Some people buy their computers just for this game; if you have
ever played the card game solitaire, basically this is what it is.
Windows sound recorder (C:\windows\sndrec32.exe)
- Allows you to record your own sounds with your microphone and also listen to sounds in the *.wav file extension format.
