Below is a a listing of known and commonly encountered Windows 95 issues, additional issues and Questions and answers can be found on our Windows 95 Question and Answer page.

If you are trying to play a sound (.wav) file and your receive the error "Sound Recorder cannot record or play back because a sound device is not installed. To install a sound device, click 'Add New Hardware' in Control Panel." This problem can occur for two of the following reasons, either "drivers=MMSYSTEM.DLL" entry is missing from the [boot] section of the system.ini or the line has a ; in front of it, or your sound card is not installed correctly.

When using the mem /c command from a DOS window in Windows 95, the reason for this is because when Windows95 loads it reserves all global upper memory blocks for Windows 95.

When running a MS-DOS prompt in a window and pressing ALT+SPACE, continuing to hold down alt, letting go of space and pressing tab to switch to another window, the menu to switch to another application will stay up when letting go of all keys.

If a screen saver activates while in a DOS window, the DOS window will be minimized when the screen saver is deactivated; the reason for this is because Windows 95 was not made to restore MS-DOS windows to full-screen mode.
