Mirror

Illustration of a mirror with ornate decoration.

An exact duplicate of another object. For example, a website may mirror its content at multiple other sites, to distribute the network traffic geographically and reduce stress on any single servers.

Tip

When describing a website mirror, although mirrors are still used today, many sites today use a CDN (content delivery network) instead of a mirror to distribute content.

When describing a display or monitor, a mirror or clone is a display that's shown the same on multiple displays. For example, when giving a presentation using a projector you may mirror the laptop's display to use the laptop during the presentation.
