    microsoft office 2007
    « on: March 09, 2010, 11:58:23 AM »
Is it possible to purchase microsoft office 2007 without spending an arm and a leg to get  it.  I need to put it on 6 computers and sure can't imagine spending that much.  Also now understand that office 2010 is to be released this May... Another bunch of money!

If you qualify for the Student/Teacher version it is significantly less expensive than the other versions. Other than that, I'm not sure what you expect to hear.

If money is an issue then you can use OpenOffice.

I assume this is for business use, so Student/Teacher version would not be allowed per the license agreement; it's only for home or student/teacher use.

I think you should look into volume licensing.  See How Volume Licensing Works.  I believe the options under Microsoft's volume licensing options can be quite advantageous for businesses.  Be sure to click the link on the page for Watch the Open programs comparison video and listen to the video which opens in Windows Media Player.

First of all, if you buy Office 2007 right now, most sites will give you the ability to upgrade to Office 2010 for free.

Newegg is currently offering a 3 pack of Office for $120. You can get your 6 licenses for $240 that way.

What do you consider an arm and a leg anyway?
Don't forget to give thanks if I was able to help ya! Please?

Thank you for the replies.  I will check out everything posted here.  I consider an arm and a leg $329.95 for the 7 professional.  I need it for 6 computers, and even if I can have 3 downloads from that, I still need 2 of them. In my view it is an arm and and a leg.  Most of the classes the kids are taking require more than the student edition offers.

A minimum of 2 machines still qualifies for the Volume liscensing agreement with MS...
However your best alternative is the Student discount.
These can be purchased online or at any University bookstore.

Installing on 3 computers from one MS Office disc only applies to the Home and Student version.  With all other versions of Office, the license agreement - I'm not talking about the volume licensing options now -  limits installation to one tower/desktop system and one mobile (laptop/notebook) PC.

I still think the student route would be the cheapest...whether 2 3 or 4 machines...

You mean getting a student discount on the Professional version as opposed to the Home and Student version of Office, right?  Yes, those academic/student discounts usually mean big savings.  Last I heard, Office 2007 was available to students of a local community college for $100; that's just the Office disc in a paper sleave but who needs the plastic box that retail versions normally come in?
