    « on: March 25, 2010, 09:29:23 AM »
I have an old dell dimension 4500 that still works, but I would like to put a new motherboard/CPU and video card in it. Can I do this? Someone told me you cant upgrade Dell equipment because of proprietary case designs.. IE,  only a very specific motherboard will fit....Thanx  ???

    Not true...
However you will want to add a new PSU to your shopping list as they were propietary in older Dells...

Ok, thanx.. To be specific, this is what Id like to do- install a  XFX nForce 750i SLI Extreme Edition Motherboard w/ Intel Pentium Dual Core E5400 Processor w/ Fan Bundle and a decent PCIe video card, also a new power supply. Id really like to find out if this specific motherboard set up will fit  my existing ( Dell dimension 4500) case/ attachment points without any ( or at least not serious/ complicated) modifications.  Again, thanx for all your input.

      Yes.
      The anchor points are standardized...
Remember to use the brass/PVC standoffs between the MBoard and the case...
And do NOT overtighten the hold down screws.
