hard drive free space question
« on: March 26, 2010, 02:39:49 PM »
In Windows XP Home Edition, when I go to "Computer", right click on the hard drive and click "properties", it shows that the used space and the free space are both blue, instead of used space being pink and free space being blue.  Why would the free space and used space both be blue?

Same color blue? Is the drive compressed?

yes, same color blue.  I don't think the drive is compressed, unless is happened by mistake at some point.  I've never had a need to compress my hard drives.

Then I don't have an answer for you unless your system is having a hard time rendering the color purple - sorry.

You know what.. It just occurred to me that I AM having color problems.  The cable for my crt monitor is bad and I cannot replace the cable as it's permanently attached.  When the computer is booted, there is a blue-like tint over the screen.  I used to be able to wiggled the cable to make it work and display the right colors, but that doesn't work anymore.  The only other monitor I have is a crt, but I can give that monitor a try..

Blue is default for used space, purple is default for free space.

purple is default for free space.

funny, to me the default looks pink  ::)

But anyway, I switched monitors and the problem is corrected.  I can now see the free space as pink/purple... whatever

and yes I had it backwards, free space is pink and used space is blue  :P

thx mr. Allan

Considering how the Solar System is set up i have no clue why Free space would be Pink...

Looks pink to me too, but the documentation says it's supposed to be purple. Anyway, glad it's straightened out.
